Bowen's experience with its Plate & Frame customers indicates that, where Plate & Frame type can be used, there are good potential savings both in space and in cost. However, such a decision deserves careful analysis of the actual application.

In general, principal limitations are the pressure and temperature capabilities of suitable gasket materials. Gaskets may be eliminated by using welded construction, but then this reduces cleaning options to various chemical means.
